Fresh off the recent single, Machine Gun Mouth, Philly’s RVLVR returns to NOREMIXES with Stranger, a deep collection of four original, analog/digital hybrid studio productions recorded at Kawari Sound in Wyncote, PA.

Stranger begins with Something’s Wrong, aptly setting the dystopian theme of the EP. Rich, synthesized vocals lay the foundation for the boom-bap beat, gut-wrenching bassline, and Wurlitzer arpeggios. Despite it’s digital, dark beginning, the song resolves to a major key with the analog help of an ethereal Yamaha CP80, Fender Rhodes bassline, and Roland VP-03 vocoder.

The record then segues to the morose Run Children Run, a profound, politically-charged statement about the pure absurdity of arming teachers to combat the ongoing horror of mass-shootings in America. Delicate piano cradles the haunting vocals and lyrics, which lead to an original french horn arrangement at the end.

The EP’s eponymous, Stranger, continues the dystopian narrative as RVLVR speaks on loneliness in the technology age. Ben O’Neill [Jill Scott, John Legend, Common] is featured on guitar throughout the song, and shreds an emotional solo a la Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour in the middle. Stranger segues seamlessly to Rough-Legged, a gorgeous and heartfelt, almost all-analog/acoustic tune that features label-boss, Starkey on modular synthesizer, NOREMIXES artist, Shell Money on guitar, and Philly multi-instrumentalist, Adam Flicker on horns.
