Favorite track: Birth.

about

Ghostinthehills is the moniker of Philadelphia-based composer and producer, Kevin McTague.

Kevin’s classical music studies can be heard in his atypical chord movement and harmonic progressions. On ‘A Haunting Desire For What is Gone’, his third release for NOREMIXES, his ambient, textural compositions sit alongside pianos and organ tones drenched in reverb and distorted partials. Unlike many of his contemporaries, ghostinthehills is not content with static drones; his compositions evolve with contorting harmonies, often employing dual major/minor pentatonics.

Positioned near the middle of this collection sits “Mid-Century Modern Interior”, a highlight of the ghostinthehills catalog. Sounding like the theme for a dystopian science fiction film, the track envelops the listener with midrange until the tonality shifts into weaving polyrhythms. This is followed by “The Flowers in the Windows are Dying”, where reverb creates drones around a distant piano and a continuous heartbeat pulse.
