Park Jones is the collaboration between composers Joo Won Park and Molly Jones. Both artists are now based in Detroit, and have used this collaboration to expand their experimental/improvisational productions to include a hybrid orchestrated approach to improvisation while digging farther into the toolbox for the unconventional.

Jones’ saxophone can be heard throughout, as does her voice. But it is always processed and manipulated by the computer. Park has his “traditional” set of live arsenal toys running through supercollider. In the preview video for “Knock Knock Joke”, we see both composers sitting across from each other with their arsenal: slinky, mixer, saxophone, shaker, microphone, laptop.

All of the material on Park Jones’ debut, is recorded live: musique concrete in real time. What separates their techniques from noise is the ability to orchestrate and construct arcs of musical sensibility, with textures that you regularly do not hear in electro-acoustic music: toys become serious instruments.
