In Spring of 2016, the NOREMIXES label held a three month residency at Philadelphia’s The Art Dept. Artists from the label performed alongside friends and guests in an intimate early Friday evening setting. All three events saw incredible performances, and now everyone will at least be able to hear a little of what went down with the NORESIDENCY release series: direct from the board recordings.

Philadelphia-based composer / guitarist Brian John McBrearty was the first guest to play at the NORESIDENCY events. When listening to his set, his music may be the least you’d expect from the NOREMIXES label, but his approach to composition and take on traditional folk music is exactly the thing that the label embraces. His guitar explorations make use of technology when appropriate, and his performance that night was structured with a beautiful dynamic arc that climaxed with the droning Dawn.
